A self-taught photographer, Darren has specialised in portrait photography for the past ten years and has used a Hasselblad 503CW film camera for the past eight years for reportage and portraiture shoots all over the world, including Australia, Japan and Belarussia. Now working mainly in London for magazines and PR companies, Darren was recently commissioned to take portrait photographs of UK television presenter, Noel Edmonds.
Surprised, but thrilled to have won his prize, Darren commented: “It’s fantastic to have won this amazing Hasselblad digital camera. I'm sure it will open up my photography and help me get more work. The quality of my portrait work in particular will be even better and is sure to impress clients.
"I had read magazine reports on the new H3D-22 camera and as the owner of a Hasselblad camera, albeit a film camera, already, had dreamed about trying it out. I have to say, though, that I never thought I would actually own one.”
Darren is currently working with friends on a book that will record a year in the life of a London car club, featuring customised cars from the 1950s and 1960s. "I will definitely be using the new Hasselblad camera for this project," he said.
Simon Barnard, Managing Director of Hasselblad (UK) Limited said: “I’m delighted to have been able to present Darren with his state-of-the-art, Hasselblad digital SLR camera. The H3D camera is the result of Hasselblad’s strategy of taking photographic flexibility and image quality to new levels, as yet unseen in any competing high-end 35mm digital cameras and I’m confident that Darren will notice a significant improvement in the image quality of his digital photographs.”
The Hasselblad H3D-22 camera is the 22 megapixel version of Hasselblad’s new H3D, the world’s first 48mm full-frame DSLR camera system. Built around a brand new digital camera engine, the H3D takes photographic flexibility and image quality to new levels, as yet unseen in any combination of medium format camera and digital backs or in 35mm DSLRs. The prize also includes Hasselblad’s new waist-level viewfinder, offering a choice of viewfinders – eye- or waist-level – and even greater flexibility for the professional photographer.

Interested photographers still have the chance to win top-of-the-range Hasselblad cameras by entering the Hasselblad Anniversary Quiz. The third round of the quiz ends on 27th November, with the winner picking up a Hasselblad 503CWD camera, which was developed specifically to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Victor Hasselblad’s birth and has been produced in a limited edition series of only 500. Entrants who have taken part in all of the first three rounds then have the opportunity to participate in the fourth round, which ends on 11th December, and be eligible to win the special grand prize – an H3D-39 camera, which offers an unsurpassed 39 megapixels on the largest image sensor currently available in digital photography.
